First impression of Kathmandu

Its 4pm on the day before we start the trekking trip. We are here in Kathmandu and nothing to do apart from blogging. I hate the fact that I cannot type Chinese on this computer. Downloading Q9 is just too slow. Yet, Nepal is such an interesting place.

Situated between Tibet and India, Nepal is quite a religious place. The Newari people love to put the gods and goddess of the Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism next to each other. The taxi driver who took us around was so proud of such harmony between the religions. Interesting though, you can find Hindu gods in a Buddhist temple as well as Buddhist symbols on the door of the Hindu ones.

Things were not as cheap as we thought either. The price of a proper meal in the restaurant is somehow comparable to that in Hong Kong. Apart from that, you still have to get used to the flies around you. My recommendation is, don’t open your mouth randomly when you saw a fly.

Taking Taxi around is the only user-friendly public transport for tourists. In that tiny 2nd hand car, you will enjoy the dust if you have nothing to cover your mouth. The bumpy roads in the city center should remind you of the excitement in an amusement park.

Apart from that, cows will join you in windows shopping on the street and dogs lied down lazily as if they were knocked out. =]

I am a late comer…

Beyond Nepal

School’s set and ready to go

Clock approaching 12:00am of May 15 and I am finally wrapping up my last research paper in the University. After this, all the school stuff will be done and all of us are ready to set off!

Gear-wise, I believe that every one of us have already prepared for almost everything according to the gear list that Bill have created for the team. It turns out that the weather, especially the temperature alone the trek are much lower than we expected. The temp at EBC can be as low as -20C at night and we are expected to be accompanied by rains and clouds every day! Although this might make our tour miserable, yet nothing could stop us at this stage!

Need to go shopping for some team food tomorrow. We prepared 50 energy bars, 50 hot chocolate and 50 fast soups for the team over 14-day period. Sometimes hot drinks can cheer you up quite effectively when being in such a cold and tough environment.
